Share reading gives the students and the teacher the opportunity to appreciate print and illustrations. Working for NISD has given me the opportunity to work with students and take part in the Share Reading time. In my experience I used big books that can cover your entire upper body. The teacher reads the book to the entire class as a group. Their are many benefits to shared reading it gives an opportunity for children to open and up and talk about the story. In many classes their are students who are quite and shy and I believe this gives those students a chance to observe, listen, and get involved. The students have an opportunity to enjoy the big illustration and might have a a better understanding of what is being read. Shared reading can make a great impact in their lives. These are great books to read and implement during you science time.
Also this is a good website.

I like your idea of using big books for shared reading. It is a good way to grab students' attention and keep them interested. It might also get students to apprreciate the illustration even more because it being in a big book format you can notice the small details more.
