I do not remember covering poetry in K- 12. I do remember covering it at San Antonio College, This teacher introduced it to us through music, and through tapes, listening to poets. She taught us that everyone understands poetry different and that sometimes it might not even make sense, because the author expresses his emotions or feelings in their own way. I really enjoyed this lesson because after that we used books on poetry. Having said this I took a trip with my kids to the library on Friday.
I decided to a little research on Authors on children s poetry and I found some good books. Some of this books have very interesting poems that make a lot a sense to me.
One of the books that I enjoyed was titled Skeleton Bones & Goblin Groans, poems for Halloween, by Amy E. Sklansky. Children that like the spooky side of Halloween , would probably enjoy this book of creepy poems.
Hi! I agree with you on not remembering poetry being taught k-12. I started liking poetry when I took a hildren's Lit. class at the NorthEast Lake View College. I also think
ReplyDeletethat children have to find a poetry book that intersts them suh as the book you just mentioned and it is a great book.
