This book is about a mother that has to leave both her kids in the the Cellar helping an elderly neighbor, she instructs them not to open the door to no one until she comes back. She does not come back. Lucilee has to comfort Natt through out the tornado experience. In this story the children learn that their lives can change so quickly in the most frightening way. My goal with this book would be to teach the students to focus and pay attention to Beginning, Middle and End. We can discuss this as a class. I Would also ask them to reflect in their writing journals and ask them change the ending of the story. Then give them time to share their ending part.
