Hi every one! My Author profile is going to be Children’s Author Marc Brown.
At first I was frustrated because I wrote three authors name, then I could not find web links that would give me more information about the Authors.
Finally I figured out that I was researching under children books, so just for your FYI make sure you press web search on the bar. Some of the links that are very helpful were;
Kidsreads.com this site gives the student a brief history about what motivated and inspire to write.
Pbskids.com is also very helpful because it talks about his biography, his family, and what still continues to motivate him to write. Their also the PBS show “Arthur”.
Reading Rockets was another useful website I found very useful because there is an actual video to watch about the interview he had.
This website as well was very useful www.edupaperback.org/showauth.cfm?authid=16 –
This link has information on different authors and illustrators. I hope this websites are helpful, they are to me.
As far as Chapter 1 I like this chapter because every section is very important and it gives lots good information, but the section I enjoyed was the Developing Good Reading Attitudes page 10 this section gives us important points of what to keep in mind when helping students to read. The teacher has to have good and positive attitudes. Sometimes it can be frustrating but then you would not be good teacher if you do not have patience, when children are trying to learn. Children can almost smell your behavior, I know I did as I was growing up and you either help them develop self esteem or take away the desire to learn. I used to get so scared and tense up when they would call my name to read, I had a strong Spanish Accent and my teachers would correct me with this frustration and assert ness. I was literally scared to read.

I absolutely LOVED Arthur growing up and Marc Brown was a great choice!!! Thanks for all of the carious websites that you listed, I plan on visiting them, seeing how I haven't chosen an author yet :) I still haven't received my book in the mail so your thoughts about chapter 1 were helpful for me! I definately know what you are talking about as far as getting scared whenever teachers always correct you and get frustrated. I am not going to be that type of teacher....patience is VITAL!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the helpful websites and especially Arthur and I can remember when I use to watch him and know my own kids love to watch his show. One thing I love about that show is that there is always a moral to the story. I usually ask my kids question after they watch that show and they really have interest and actually give me answers. That show and Clifford are the best. As far as Chapter 1 it was helpful about how and why you are the number one model of the students reading habits. Like it stated in the chapter "The teacher is the critical player in shaping the minds of young children".
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with you on your comment about kids that actually smell your fear. It is so true. They have a keen sense of our insecurities as teachers and they know when we know we can handle a situation or not. As a teacher, when a child has an insecurity such as you had about your language, they can really use their role to build your self-esteem by praising you, giving you a little more of the extrinsic motivation so that children around you would take notice as well. You know kind of like seeing what you think are your weaknesses as a unique strength.
ReplyDeleteI have seen a teacher totally lose it because the kids smelled her fear. Poor lady she was a great teacher and was very smart. She just had no experience with inner city kids. Arthur was a funny cartoon. I still remember the one when he couldnt play hide- and-seek because his nose was to big.
ReplyDeleteI agree about the children being scared when there name is called on but that is because thier self confidence hasn't builsd up yet.
ReplyDeleteThe teacher should work on building the child's confidence with positve attitude. Every child omes out of thier shell at thier own pace which seeing a postive attitude in a teacher helps.
I agree Arthur is one of the best show and books out there today. And plus theres a lot to choose from when it comes to Marc Brown books :)
