EDRG 3341 M-W What is a Circular Story

A circular story follows a circle pattern. They begin and end the same way. It begins with a subject(point)then follows a pattern and ends with the same subject(point).
I would use the Circular Story by helping students build knowledge and recognize patterns in the story's, then help them create their own Circular Story.I would definitely use a Story Wheel. Graphic organizers are similar as story wheels and used to teach the cycle of a butterfly and other insects in science. It helps children understand the concept of the beginning of the story, middle and end of the story then you start back to the beginning again. I enjoy reading to children, I like to act out, make sounds different voices and I even like to dress up sometimes for the occasion. I am pretty good with puppets, reading has to be motivational, a time when children will never forget the moment, and when they remember how the story made them feel so they could become good readers and listeners. They will look forward for reading time. This is an opportunity of a life time not only for them but for me.

  3. You are absolutely right, I didn't think about how it helps the children learn the information from the beginning, middle and end. The circular story is also good good for learning patterns and rhymes. If you make reading fun in the classroom yes children will look forward to reading time. When I was little I hated reading time because it was so boring and my teachers never put any excitement into it. The only thing I can remember is that, the teacher would try to make the expressions of the characters but of course that gets old. As of today children are brought up in a world with WII games, PS3, computers, dance games, etc. Therefore we know are children are always moving around when they interact with these games and they get use to it. We sometimes wonder why they can't sit and the games may be a reason why. Thats why while reading a story we should make it a movement or interacting story to make it fun for the ones who are use to not being still. I totally agree that asking questions after the story can help students to be good readers and listeners.

  4. I never knew what a circular story was until this class. I don't know if that sounds dumb or not. Anyhow I like those books I think they are great for kids. I think its true that once they become familar with the pattern of the story, it makes them look foward to reading it again. The voice changes I think is very important also. I'm going to learn more about a story wheel.
