3321 Genre Presentation " Spider"

I loved your presentation, very informative. Children at this age should be introduced to many topic like this. Due to the TEKS test I believe topic like this are not touched mushed. Science is not a priority not until they are in the older levels. they are pretty much on their own ,but I believe as a future teacher we need to more of what you guys did. I LOVED YOUR activity and presentation.
Nice Work!

We all brain stormed talked, shared ideas and finally agreed on the story. I have never worked with an awesome team like this. I want to thank Ms. Pickett for allowing us to grade each other, again I have never had a an instructor who has done this. We felt like children once again and it felt good! We also learned something new from each other. I always ask the good lord to give me patience as I learn and to open minded when I work with other people. 3321 Guided Shared Reading

Guided Shared reading is shared reading time during which the teacher provides support for small, flexible groups of beginning readers. The teacher helps students learn to use reading strategies, such as context clues, letter and sound knowledge, and syntax or word structure, as they read a text or book that is unfamiliar to them. The goal of guided reading is for students to use these strategies independently on their way to becoming fluent, skilled readers. Guided reading is encouraged in Elementary schools especially the early years in 1st grade. I believe guided reading works wonderful, My daughter is in First Grade and she gets so motivated to read with her group and teacher, she pushes her self to keep up with her group and shze also learn from her peers as she helps her class mates.

Ch 6 Traditional Literature 3321 M-W

Traditional literature is a genre that deals with stories that were first oral and were written down at a later date. Traditional literature consists of songs, stories, poems and riddles from different sources. There are many different kinds or forms of traditional literature ( myths, fables, epics, ballads, legends, folk rhymes, folktale's, fairy tales, hero tales and much more .) Many of this tales sounds similar to other tales. some of this tales are appreciated more than others. For instance Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, and Snow White, Etc. Their many Mexican Legends or myths in my culture that are very similar to American Folk tales and Myhts. For examples " Duendes" Tiny little people in which here we call them elves. Traditional literature is a very important part in children's literature. Traditional stories and poems need to have , plots, rhymes or rhythms to be remembered.

ch 7 Picture Books 3321 M-W

when I was growing up I was not a reader neither was I encourage to read. Now I am story teller and I love to read. I believe picture books are so important because children could look at the pictures and more less predict what will happen. When they are first learning how to read they could also look at the picture and try to sound off the words. In picture books their is no boundaries no matter what language you speak children can more less get an idea of what the author and illustrator are trying to say. Picture books are books that combines visual and verbal narratives. A picture books tell a story with words and illustrations. Pictures books are my favorite.

3344 M-W Expository

In my Expository writing I created a folder for First graders.

Visual Aid
First Grade Spelling Buddy
Word Challenge Notebook

This Visual Aid was created to help students enhance their vocabulary.
As a class every week, students will be introduced to a least 6 to 11 Sight words and at least to 5 High Frequency Words. After being introduced to the words, students will have an opportunity to work with a buddy with this activity. This activity is to be explained and guided by the teacher until students understand the concept. Once the students understand the concept it can be done with their buddy during center time.

Goal: My goal is to have at least three to four of these visual spelling notebooks. With more visual aids like this in my Word Wall area, more students will have an opportunity to practice their spelling words and sight words.

Incentive: Students will earn a star for every activity accomplished. Some activities can earn two stars. At the end of the week students who have earned all stars will get to choose a prize from the treasure box.

3344 Mon-Wed. Stiletto Stoners

when I first heard about this topic it was upsetting, Here we have wealthy women who have everything they want to have. Unfortunately morals and values can not be bought with money. The same way they come out and talk about Marijuana, they should have the courage to show their identity. Obviously not, since they were interview was in the dark. I ask myself how does this affect me, They are promoting "how to kill your brain cells". This topic means a lot to me because I grew up in a violent neighborhood where many kids were smoking weed doing all kinds of drugs. Their were big tough gangs every day, I had to see this, smell it and go through it, because my neighbors were always getting high. Thank God, I only got discouraged because of the out comes in their behavior. Statics show that the strength of today's marijuana is as much as ten times greater than the marijuana used in the early 1970s. One major concern about marijuana is its possible effects on young people as they grow up. Research shows that the earlier people start using drugs, the more likely they are to go on to experiment with other drugs. In addition, when young people start using marijuana regularly, they often lose interest and are not motivated to do their schoolwork. This drug is danger to society and as a future teacher and adult we need to have high standards for our selves and students. We are already corrupted with media junk and interviewing these ding dongs does not make it any better, only if they would have shown their faces. I believe that we need to not let idiots like this influence our kids. I ask myself then why do we have the DARE Program in Texas?
By the way why do their employees have to take a drug test. O. K enough to personal!
Thanks for listening, Did I vent?

Apple Picking Time I read this book to a second grade class, the students really enjoyed it. I read them this book back in November, before the Thanksgiving Holidays,
the students were talking and reflecting and relating to the story. This book could be read to introduce the fall season. This book has rich Autumn colors and has a bit of Americana History. Anna and her extended family help with the town's traditional fall apple harvest.

The Snowy Day This book is about a young boy who explores his neighborhood after a snow fall in his neighborhood. This a great book, I would use in my class room to encourage students about writing a narrative story of an adventure they have experience. This book gives great beginning, middle, and end. The story concentrates in giving descriptive details of his adventure.

Shared Reading 3321 Mon.-Wed.

Share reading gives the students and the teacher the opportunity to appreciate print and illustrations. Working for NISD has given me the opportunity to work with students and take part in the Share Reading time. In my experience I used big books that can cover your entire upper body. The teacher reads the book to the entire class as a group. Their are many benefits to shared reading it gives an opportunity for children to open and up and talk about the story. In many classes their are students who are quite and shy and I believe this gives those students a chance to observe, listen, and get involved. The students have an opportunity to enjoy the big illustration and might have a a better understanding of what is being read. Shared reading can make a great impact in their lives. These are great books to read and implement during you science time.
Also this is a good website.

3344 Writting conference

This week I was asked at my writing conference (4th grade)to do a presentation of "The Day of the Dead" "El Dia De Los Muertos" This is a Mexican tradition that runs in my family that we celebrate on Nov.1 and 2 . Our Aztec tradition was to celebrate it late July and early august many years ago and now we celebrate it in November. In Mexico we believe that Mexicans embrace death. They use Dia De Los Muertos as an opportunity to celebrate the death and the life of loved ones and friends they knew in this world. And it is a day of celebration, not a day of mourning. FYI This is also a Chinese tradition in some families.
It was honor to get invited I had an opportunity to actually set up a table with pictures,(calaveras)skulls and other items and just give a brief presentation about my culture and customs. I started by introducing myself and then talked about ,multicultural and the importance of respect among one another and how each of has have different beliefs and customs. I read a book, then the students gave compliments and asked questions. At the end of the presentation I gave the students cookies that were Skull, bats and pumpkins that I bake for them. All this was done by the school permission. It was a wonderful experience the teacher, students and administration really enjoyed it. I was a bit nervous because I as not expecting to many adults.
This was a wonderful experience!

Graves Family with Patricia Polacco. This is a funny book with colorful pictures has creepy details. My son loves it it has great messages, a book of how differences should be celebrated and not feared. This is a great book again in my writing time after reading the book I would ask the students what detailed words the Author used.
Then I would ask students to try to go back and used details words in their stories.
great book to read since Halloween is coming up.

Mon.- Wed. 3321Author Profile

This is a very good book written by Robert Munsch, a Canadian Author. This a story about a little boy named Lance, he loves dressing up for Halloween, but this time he decides to paint his face very scary. Lance goes trick or treating scaring the neighbors and stealing candies. This is an awesome story, especially with Halloween coming up I would do a mini lesson. I would read this book during my writing time. Before reading I would ask the students to pay attention to beginning, middle and end.
Then I would ask them to go back and do their writing of a scary moment. For them to concentrate on their beginning, middle, and end. Also this is a great book that uses a lot of Onomatopoeia which is using words that imitate the sound that make noise. Example: Whaa! Whaa!

3321 M-WThe Path of Needles or Pins: Little Red Riding Hood

Hello everyone I did not get to blog last week. I was reading The Path of Needles or Pins:
Little Red Riding Hood, I was eating my breakfast when I was reading the story, not a good idea you see, I visual what I read and I visual it in detail. So first of all this story is pretty graphic. This folk tale has been written over and over giving us more less the same plot but as we read them we analyze them, interpret them depending on each of our own social attitudes, traditions, and behavior we base our experiences and we then criticize the stories. There are a few things that I liked about the story compared to other Red Riding Hood stories, how Little Red Writing hood ran away and out smart the wolf. The only thing I think that I saw risky was that Little Red Riding Hood allowed the wolf to get to close to her. I did not like the way the wolf ate the Grandma that was too much detail. I wonder how those children that were read this tale, affected them. Now a days I know that many kids read wYou can worst things than this or better yet watch horror movies way more graphic. I believe that I had a choice of using this story I would probably use this folk tale with middle School Students, we would do a compare and Contrast assignment with the same story but written by different authors. I would read the more revised Little Red Riding Hood to the younger kids and more less implementing an assignment about, trust, obedience, do not talk to strangers. There are many things that I could do with this story, and I am sure the students would learn a lot and enjoy it.

3321 M - W Maya Angelou

The first time I heard of Maya Angelou was when I was going to San Antonio College, I heard more about her when I attended ST Philips college. I felt in love with this woman poetry, not only what the message is, but hearing her say them herself.
She is a very motivational woman who talks from the heart and experience. This someone I would definitely like for my students to learn from her poetry. One of my favorites poems is "Still I Rise" If you had not heard this poem listen to it, and see what you think? This is an inspirational woman, when you feel like you are at the end of the line and you can not take it anymore let her live interviews motivate you, not to give up! It does for me.

3344 M-W Memory

First of all I want to mention my reaction on the class sharing we did today. It was such a wonderful experience to see how we are all human and that its okay to show our emotions, I believe each person in this universe has something to share about memories. It does not matter who you are and where you come from at one point or another you experience memories. What we all did today is something I will never forget. This is such good activity to do with my future class, this is good way to learn about each other and hopefully the outcome would be to be respectful with one another and to appreciate life.
One of the memories I would like to talk about is my "Most Precious Moment I will treasure it like Gold." My Wedding Day! I believe this day represents the saying "Things Happen for a Reason" It is like a cycle that connects with the rest of the precious memories I mention in class today. First of all I like to mention that am a child abuse survivor, growing up in a domestic violence home was not easy. It was about surviving my childhood. I was a run away at a young age, I needed to be independent and be strong in order to survive.I worked hard my entire childhood earning pennies. Due to my experience with my step father as I grew older I did not believe in men in general. My live was a Cinderella story, that was my nick name. I had low self esteem, I did not believe in myself. I hated live and was paranoid of everyone since I had lost trust. Meeting my husband is one of the the most important memories that had ever happen to me. He was different then all the men I had met or dated. My husband and I would spent hours and months talking over the phone before we actually went out on our first date. We were friends for a while, then we became steady and of course we finally ended up getting married. If it wasn't because we met, I would of not met his wonderful mother, she died one month before our wedding. Thanks to god, for blessing me with this wonderful man and who has helped me believe in my self we now have two wonderful children. In my Wedding Day it was about us, It was a dream come true. I felt I was floating in the air like a true princess. I always tell my husband I am truly blessed with my Prince Charming. I do not mind being called Cinderella, since she married "The Prince" I believe that we will be together after death. Like I mention earlier the world gave a circle everything I touched in class has a connection, "Things Happen for a Reason" My husband and I have been married for 11 years and God willing this October we will celebrate our 12th anniversary and we will light our Wedding Candle.

3321 M-W Author Profile (poetry)

A Light in the Attic poems by Shel Silverstein,
This author has interesting books, This book has poems about the attic of Shel Silverstein describing children in many different ways while experiencing different situations.
For example "Sour Face Ann" This book was rated for children 6 and up I disagree, I think this is better for 3rd graders and up. Their are different poems that I do not like for instance "Kidnapped" My interpretation about this poem it is about a student being late to school and his excuse for being late is that he was kidnapped. It gives specifics of what happen, I do not like it, but on the other hand it can happen, because the kidnappers offer him candy and describes what they did to him. Some of these poems are Bizzare.

3321 M- W Author Profile ( Poetry)

I do not remember covering poetry in K- 12. I do remember covering it at San Antonio College, This teacher introduced it to us through music, and through tapes, listening to poets. She taught us that everyone understands poetry different and that sometimes it might not even make sense, because the author expresses his emotions or feelings in their own way. I really enjoyed this lesson because after that we used books on poetry. Having said this I took a trip with my kids to the library on Friday.
I decided to a little research on Authors on children s poetry and I found some good books. Some of this books have very interesting poems that make a lot a sense to me.
One of the books that I enjoyed was titled Skeleton Bones & Goblin Groans, poems for Halloween, by Amy E. Sklansky. Children that like the spooky side of Halloween , would probably enjoy this book of creepy poems.

M-W 3344 All about me!

I actually did this activity with first graders in the after school program I worked for. I did not do the activity myself since the assigned me this group at the last minute, I needed something that would help us learn a little bit about them. I remember the kids having so much fun! Now I know how they felt. Having the opportunity to do activities like this, gives us the opportunity to experience that child in us. Activities like this helps us understand and learn from each other. I am a Chef, The best teacher I have is my mother. She taught us to cook "con el corazon" You cook with your heart! She tells me the best ingredient is "love". I relate my passion in cooking and baking with the passion of teaching. whenever I have an opportunity to implement food in the class room I take it. It helps me teach children about cultures and traditions. I find teaching and cooking with many similarities. In both you need this ingredients love , passion, patience and lots of recipes(ideas) I have learned that some children have to survive at home for many reasons, either because they are alone at home or for many other reasons. I feel this is something that children need and I can connect with them. When you cook you experience many subjects History, Math, Science, Reading, Writing, Art and lots of fun! I enjoy reading books especially when you could include food, but of course it is not as easy as it sounds you have to take into consideration school policies and food allergies. So one day even if I have to form my own club after school I will do it. Writing and creating recipes, is like writing and creating songs, or stories!
This is a small song I wrote with the same rhythm as ( swimming in the pool!)

Cooking! Cooking!
that is what I love!
Teaching! Teaching!
Helping Measure up!
Hot days, cold days lets have fun all day!
Learning! Learning!
as we COOK and PLAY!!

3344 M-W Personal Writing

My personal writing would be when, I write notes to my kids and husband.
I like to express my love and appreciation by writing little notes or letters then hiding them in their bag packs, lunch bags so when they open it they know I have a special thought to share. Ever since my kids were little (1 yr old) I would give them a little Kisses Chocolate candy and I would tell my son oh Mr. Chocolate wrote a note to you in the wrapper, I would say something like this " Dear Jerry and Jazz I just want to tell how smart you are and I really like the way you ate your carrots, do not eat a lot of these chocolates or you will blow your tummy up, love Mr. Chocolate. Then I had to actually write what I said and save them, until they actually realized it was me writing the little notes. Now I let them know it is me, but I like to hide the notes and they get them when they least expect it.

3321 M-W Author Profile Twister by Darleen Bailey Beard

This book is about a mother that has to leave both her kids in the the Cellar helping an elderly neighbor, she instructs them not to open the door to no one until she comes back. She does not come back. Lucilee has to comfort Natt through out the tornado experience. In this story the children learn that their lives can change so quickly in the most frightening way. My goal with this book would be to teach the students to focus and pay attention to Beginning, Middle and End. We can discuss this as a class. I Would also ask them to reflect in their writing journals and ask them change the ending of the story. Then give them time to share their ending part.

3321M-W Chapter 3 Comprehension Vocabulary and Discussion

In this chapter we learned that the goal of Comprehension is understanding. That means that as you are reading you are thinking and finding meaning of what you are reading and understanding what you have read. After reading this chapter it helps me understand myself. I grew up in a home where you were not allowed to speak English only Spanish because both of my parents did not speak a word in English, but we were encourage to read Spanish literature and we were expected to write the Spanish language with its proper grammar. Growing up I was never an English reader and I was never encourage by anyone. After reading this chapter I have a better understanding as to why I struggle with Comprehension. I can read a book or a simple paragraphs and I feel"what the heck what did I just read!" I will read again and again until I get frustrated and discouraged. One thing I have notice is that if I like the topic I will not struggle as much, but when it comes to big words I get off track trying to find meaning of the words, or like the chapter says I start decoding.
As a teacher I want to make sure I have all kinds of literature available for my students so that way I can match their interest in their reading.

3321Authors Profile " Panchos Pinata" by Stefan Czernecki and Timothy Rhodes

O.K. this is the deal my kids had early release today and we decided to go to the library and this is a good book I found. This book teaches about the Hispanic culture. This is a tale about a Mexican Village boy named Pancho, who rescues a star from a cactus, he keeps it, then he decides to pass it on to the children from the village. Sharing his happiness and joy to other children. This is a story about giving in Christmas, in a Mexican tradition.
I loved this book because I can relate to it, when I visit my family in Mexico we always break a Pinata and sing Christmas carols, uhh! My point is that children can sometimes relate to stories while others can learn and get ideas how other cultures celebrate.

3321 Author Profile " No Jumping on the Bed " Tedd Arnold

This is a great Author, My six year old daughter enjoys his books. This book is about a little boy named Walter who keeps breaking his father rules. He jumps on the bed falling through all the apartment floors from the building he lives in. Along the way he picks up all this different residents until they end up in the basement.
I would introduce this book by showing the students the cover then asking them, "What do you think this book is about?" after reading the story I can ask questions such as, " Can this really happen to you if you if you were jumping in the bed?" "Can you actually go through each floor and pick up somebody?" In this book you could ask chronological questions, " Whose floor did he land first" Then who was second etc.
At the end students could go to their bear book and write about their favorite part of the book.... or I really liked when.... then have them draw a picture about the book. The idea is to get them to recall and express themselves.

3344 Chapter 3 Writing is a Process

WRITING is a PROCESS

The steps are:

Stage 1 is Prewriting is when students are “getting to write” stage. Students organize themselves by putting their thoughts together .During this stage students choose a topic, read, write, brain storm any thoughts that come to mind. Depending on the students grade level they could either choose their topic, or you could give them ideas or assign the topic. For example let them write a letter about a book to a classmate, friend or pen pal.
Another example, they can create another episode or create a sequel of a book. They have to take into consideration the purpose, the audience, the format and how they are going to gather ideas.

Stage 2 Drafting students get their ideas down on paper, they usually skip lines and title their paper “Rough Draft” it is very important for teachers to make sure students title their paper as rough draft so that everyone knows that the main emphasis is the content not the mechanical part. An example of a drafting is when a student paper is messy. There is usually many misspelled words, cut off sentences and sometimes it might not even make sense. Students usually use transition sentences.

Stage 3 Revising writers usually add or delete sentences, content or ideas. Writers usually respond to the next, deepen meaning, clarify misunderstanding and expand on their ideas. Example they can share in writing groups or revising centers by using a graphic organizer or word Choice students choose 5 to 10 words in their rough drafts and look for more specifics or more powerful words for them using a thesaurus.

Stage 4 Editing is putting the piece of writing into its final form. The focus here is the mechanical part. The student’s goal is to make their writing readable. A good activity here is to put them in groups or partners and have students proof read their writing. They can look for spelling, homophones, punctuation, capitalization sentences make sure they complete and they make sense.

Stage 5 Publishing here students bring their writings to life, they make copies or share them orally with somebody or the entire class. Teachers can request for the students to read their paper in the morning announcements, so that the entire school could listen.

If I won ten million dollars by playing Publishers House I would jump, cry of joy, land on my injured knee, for get about the pain “Give thanks to god!” And immediately call my husband and yell over the phone guess what? We won! We won! Did you here me! We won! After pinching myself and realizing this is not a dream and that I am not in Lala land, then I would get my kids from school and share our success story. I would talk to my husband and decide how we are going to invest our money.
One thing we would not do is blow up the money and live in luxury; we would plan like we always do and talk over our finances and help others the way we have always helped.. I would then invite my entire family to include close friends for dinner and do a big cook out and celebrate. Not only would we celebrate but we would help them financially.
We would never let money get to our heads. It’s all about being open minded and reaching your dreams and helping others reach theirs. My husband would finally start his business in computers. Our children have a college fund. All of our bills would be paid off. I finally buy my ranch with horses and cattle. I would definitely finish my education continue to follow my family dreams.
Another dream come true would be to open a West Side Drop Inn Recreational Center (nonprofit) for kids of all ages and struggling families. Anyone would qualify. Our drop Inn center would offer many services; for example we would have a big swimming pool with certified lifeguards ready to teach and assist children. A skateboard ring all equip with instructors who teach skateboarding and safety. We would have all sports; basketball, hockey, soccer, football, baseball, tennis and much more. I would collaborate with different organizations such as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Big Brother, Big Sister Foundation. I would make sure I would use other non profit organizations to help keep the dream going. I would also have a food bank, Social workers available for guidance, adult opportunities, programs such as GED, Work Study, Work Force and much more. B
I would also make sure that in our dropping center we would have more programs for Child Abuse Awareness and Teen mom goal oriented programs, life skills program where you learn to take care of your self and your loves ones. This program would be geared towards people who want another opportunity in growing strong individuals with their families. The drop inn center would be a place where you are wanted, have fun and learn.
If I would win ten million dollars I would definitely hire an investor to help us make sure we learn how to not loose everything and learn how to run a Nonprofit Organization that hires people that are willing to grow and help the institution grow without having to go bankrupt. Winning ten million dollars can open many opportunities for my family, me and my community.

3321 Chapter 2 Culturally Responsive Classrooms

It is very important for a teacher to know the true meaning of Culture. Reading this chapter helped me understand that as a teacher we will be serving a diversity of students. Each child that walks through the school doors is unique in their own way, all this goes back to their culture. Culture can be a person beliefs, values, goals, attitudes, practices and all this is integrated in their behaviors and customs.
I enjoyed this chapter because it talks about schools needing to be responsive to culture and meeting the needs of all learners.
I believe that it does not matter your ethnicity whether your are White, Hispanic, Mexican, Black, Asian, etc. each individual has their own culture. Organizational culture will improve the quality of a school. Reading Multicultural books to students will help some students connect or understand with their classmates. It is good to think outside the box and know that students come in all shapes and sizes metaphorically speaking when it comes to culture. Each child will teach you something new and positive because everything you learn from an individual will help you gain something positive.

EDRG 3341 M-W What is a Circular Story

A circular story follows a circle pattern. They begin and end the same way. It begins with a subject(point)then follows a pattern and ends with the same subject(point).
I would use the Circular Story by helping students build knowledge and recognize patterns in the story's, then help them create their own Circular Story.I would definitely use a Story Wheel. Graphic organizers are similar as story wheels and used to teach the cycle of a butterfly and other insects in science. It helps children understand the concept of the beginning of the story, middle and end of the story then you start back to the beginning again. I enjoy reading to children, I like to act out, make sounds different voices and I even like to dress up sometimes for the occasion. I am pretty good with puppets, reading has to be motivational, a time when children will never forget the moment, and when they remember how the story made them feel so they could become good readers and listeners. They will look forward for reading time. This is an opportunity of a life time not only for them but for me.

EDRG 3321 Mon- Wed. Author Profile/ Information I found useful in Ch1

EDRG 3321 Mon- Wed. 11am -12:20 class

Hi every one! My Author profile is going to be Children’s Author Marc Brown.
At first I was frustrated because I wrote three authors name, then I could not find web links that would give me more information about the Authors.
Finally I figured out that I was researching under children books, so just for your FYI make sure you press web search on the bar. Some of the links that are very helpful were;
Kidsreads.com this site gives the student a brief history about what motivated and inspire to write.
Pbskids.com is also very helpful because it talks about his biography, his family, and what still continues to motivate him to write. Their also the PBS show “Arthur”.
Reading Rockets was another useful website I found very useful because there is an actual video to watch about the interview he had.
This website as well was very useful www.edupaperback.org/showauth.cfm?authid=16 –
This link has information on different authors and illustrators. I hope this websites are helpful, they are to me.
As far as Chapter 1 I like this chapter because every section is very important and it gives lots good information, but the section I enjoyed was the Developing Good Reading Attitudes page 10 this section gives us important points of what to keep in mind when helping students to read. The teacher has to have good and positive attitudes. Sometimes it can be frustrating but then you would not be good teacher if you do not have patience, when children are trying to learn. Children can almost smell your behavior, I know I did as I was growing up and you either help them develop self esteem or take away the desire to learn. I used to get so scared and tense up when they would call my name to read, I had a strong Spanish Accent and my teachers would correct me with this frustration and assert ness. I was literally scared to read.

EDRG 3344 Blog 1

EDRG 3344
The assignment in class was to explain how you learn. Discuss how I am motivated?
Hola! I learn by hands on, I like to take any opportunity I can by learning from others not just from adults but especialy from children. We are all unique in a special way and I think that by thinking out side the box you give your self and the other person the opportunity to learn from one another. I believe I am an Intrinsic person. I like to set goals for my self every day. I write down a to do list, then I like to check mark what I accomplish from my list. I motivate myself that way. My accomplishments for the day are my rewards. I truly believe that people that are intrinsic like to know that others care. I think both of my kids are intrusive as well. For instance both of my kids work very hard at school and at home. They do behave different in both places (excellent behavior at school), something happens when they get home, they let out all their energy. Anyway, my point is that, they are very responsible when it comes to homework and their nightly reading. Unfortunately sometimes they do not always get recognized because their teachers are aware of how responsible they are. The reason I am bringing this up is because my daughter notice this in her class room last year. "Mom I always do my homework and read at night and Joey never does his homework, and today he brought his work and the teacher made a big deal, ( she clapped and let the entire class know, he did not even complete the entire homework!" My responsibility as a parent was to assure my daughter that her teacher does care. I told her that her teachers cares for each student in her class in a special way. I had to help her understand that her teacher works hard to help each student learn in class, but what happens at home is out of her hands. It is the parents responsibility. I told her that maybe Joey probably did not have anyone at home to help him. But just the fact that he tried on his own needed praise. I explained to her that her teacher needed an opportunity like this to motivate Joey to continue doing his homework, even though his homework was not complete, he tried. My daughter responded, "what about us that work hard all the time." At the end of the school year they get the certificate that states how responsible they were, I believe that we should not assume that just because they are responsible, children know they are being recognized. "Show me that you care!" I hope this makes sense.
